Budget your expenditures

People earn to spend and usually people end up spending more than they earn. It is in this situation that the concept of the budgeting of the expenditure comes into existence. The budgeting of the expenditure is a very wide aspect and is used by the households as well as the government.

The household budgeting

In the household people usually make budgets for a month based on the income of the concerned household unit in that particular month. The budgeting process of the expenditures depends on the simple formula of comparing the average monthly expenses of the concerned household to the total amount of monthly income earned by the same. There are actually many computer programs that have been designed by the software companies which help the people to keep a track of their expenditures. Quicken is one such computer program which is designed to help the people in budgeting their expenditures. These computer programs are especially good for keeping track of the expenses made by check or credit cards. Most of these programs are equipped with exclusive budget features. There is though a problem with these commercial budgeting programs. These programs usually look after or keep track of the expenses incurred by checks and other indirect sources of payment, and overlook the cash payment option. This is indeed a problem because the cash payment is the most obvious source of payment.

Basic tips for household budgeting:

Some basics should be kept in mind while formatting the budget of the month. These simple keys provide for an effective budgeting decision. It is always advised that the credit card charges by the concerned person or household should not be recorded as the main aim of the budgeting process is to get a clear idea about where the cash of the concerned household is going. The payments paid by the credit card bills should also be listed by the household in the list of payments that have been already paid.

Totaling of the income:

The expenditures incurred do not give the entire picture. The monthly income earned by the concerned unit is also a very important part of the picture. The monthly income is also required to be summed up. If in a similar unit the expenditures are shared by two or more people than the monthly income of all the related people should be summed up. The income earned from different sources should be summed up separately and then allocation of the monetary resources should be done. The different sources of income are the income from the salary that is from ones job, the income from the self employed resources like farms and the extra income earned from dividends, interests and bonus.

Budgeting is equally important for the smooth running of the bigger unit that is the entire economy and the process in this case is carried out by the government. The union budget sessions are carried out and a common union budget is framed. This is a far wider concept than that of household budgeting of expenditure.
